| The Reach Out Mentor Program brings together at-risk middle school students and adult volunteers who will build a relationship over the course of a year. Since the inception of the mentoring program in 1998, over 150 teens have been served. The goal of the Reach Out Mentor Program is to build academic as well as other life skills in order to be healthy, happy, productive members of society and to address the related problem of teen pregnancy among middle school youth. The mentees are 11-14 year old students identified by their school counselors as “at risk” of following their older siblings or friends into lives of substance abuse and/or teen parenthood. The mentors are adult volunteers from the community dedicated to giving at least one hour a week for one year to develop a relationship with a mentee that will convey and support an expanded view of life, hope and possibilities. |
